clockwise the barbarian - a review
In line with many of Rubyacht's earlier works, "clockwise the barbarian" is
nothing short of a masterpiece. He manages to perfectly capture the very essence of
clockwise, without ever having to place him in any kind of background
setting whatsoever.
In this particular image we get to see clock, triumphant and exuberant, presumably
due to the fact that he holds in his hand the key to his happiness --- namely
the severed head of a dead goth. (detail)
The word "Phear" is greatly significant to this piece. It is positioned on clockwise's
shirt, close to his heart. It is as if Rubyacht is telling us that phear is indeed
present in the hearts of ALL mankind. Likewise, the symbolic placement of the word "l33t" on
the subject's hat is no afterthought, as clearly clock's l33tness significantly
involves the use of his intelligence, cool headedness, and boyish good looks.
Therefore, it is only natural to place it somewhere in the vacinity of the brow
of his massive forehead.
Last, but not least, I would like to mention the meticulous attention to detail Rubyacht
pays in regard to clockwise's body language in this image. The "thumbs up" gesture
serves to vindicate all the people who secretly want to systematically execute all freaks.
For this, I give Rubyacht the big "thumbs up" for this captivating glimpse into the psyche of
clockwise.
